All bowed string instrument and guitar repair, bow re-hair, restoration and servicing is carried out by our own luthiers in our own workshops.

So much more than just 'keeping in-tune'

Keeping your bow, violin, viola, cello or double-bass in tip-top condition is essential if you are to maintain the best possible results from your playing. Similarly, with a guitar, keeping the fret-board, action and strings maintained are important to the playability and sound.

After all, like a car, it may keep going for some time without care, but the performance and efficiency will drop... very often without realising!

Why regular servicing?

Your instrument's performance can be affected by many factors. For bowed string instruments, a build-up of dirt and rosin on the soundboard can alter tone production as well as spoil the aesthetic appearance of your precious instrument.

String condition can have a marked impact on both tone production and intonation. Wear on the fingerboard can likewise impact on intonation, particularly when double stopping.

If you find yourself leaving your instrument un-played for extended periods, seams can often come un-glued and previously repaired cracks can re-open. This can occur whatever the atmospheric conditions the instrument is stored in and should be rectified as soon as possible to prevent seriously compromising both tone and structural integrity.

By having your violin, viola, cello, double-bass or guitar regularly checked and cleaned by one of our luthiers (we recommend at least once per year), you can help minimise potential issues and maintain it in optimal playing condition.
